"What is the Deal With These Commecials?" -- Seinfeld Booted as Microsoft Spokesman

Friday September 19, 2008

Have you seen those new Microsoft commercials with Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates? Have you wondered what it is exactly that they're meant to be selling/telling us? You may not be alone in your confusion.

Just a few weeks after the Seinfeld spots appeared, it seems Microsoft is pulling the plug on the comic as their spokesman. No real reason why has been provided -- though there's plenty of speculation (including one theory that viewers feel like Seinfeld is a has-been and is being replaced by more "current" stars like Eva Longoria Parker...if Jerry Seinfeld can't get me to buy a computer, Eva Longoria's got no shot). Ultimately, I'm not sure it's really news, except that Seinfeld was paid $10 million for the gig and the tepid media response is a pretty public blight on both the comic and Microsoft. And here I thought both were bulletproof.

If you haven't seen the spots, check one out here.

Jerry Seinfeld is Larry David’s comic puppet.
