Comedy Central has announced the comedians and celebrities who will make up the dais at the upcoming Roast of Roseanne.
In addition to previously-announced Roastmaster Jane Lynch, the people making fun of Roseanne will include:
- Jeff Ross
- Seth Green
- Amy Schumer
- Sharon Stone
- Anthony Jeselnik
- Katey Sagal
- Carrie Fisher
Yes, you are reading that correctly. There are three comedians on the dais, not including the guest of honor. The rest of the lineup consists of Peg Bundy, Princess Leia, the lady who flashed us in Basic Instinct and the guy from Robot Chicken. What's going on with these Comedy Central roasts? Do comics just not want to do them anymore? It seems like with every successive roast, the comedian-to-celebrity ratio keeps shifting in favor of the latter. It's possible that more comics could be announced in the coming weeks, but it's just as possible that it won't happen.
The good news is that Comedy Central recognized how well Anthony Jeselnik and Amy Schumer did on the Charlie Sheen roast and has them positioned to become staples of the roasts going forward. They're sure to be bright spots; everyone else (minus Jeff Ross) is a question mark at this point.
The Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne will tape at the Hollywood Palladium on August 4, and premieres on Comedy Central on Sunday, August 12 at 9 p.m. CST.
UPDATE: Comedy Central has announced that Wayne Brady, Ellen Barkin and Gilbert Gottfried will also appear on the roast, rounding out the dais. At least that's a couple more comedians, and one of them is Gilbert Gottfried, who always kills. Plus, you know, Ellen Barkin. The Ellen Barkin!
