Louis C.K. to Host Saturday Night Live

By October 21, 2012

Follow me on:

Louis CK and his two Emmy awardsFresh off his double Emmy win for his sitcom Louie, stand-up comedian Louis CK will slay another dragon and host Saturday Night Live for the very first time on November 3rd.

Stand-up comic hosts have been a staple of the sketch comedy show since George Carlin hosted the first ever episode of the show back in 1975. It doesn't happen as much these days; the last big-name comic I can remember hosting is Dane Cook back in 2006. It can be difficult for a comic to navigate fitting in to the show's comedy while still maintaining a sense of who he or she is as a comedian (not that it's necessary -- the best hosts blend in the best -- but it seems to be the way it is). I can't wait to see how CK deals with that dichotomy.

CK recently announced that his brilliant, Emmy-award winning FX sitcom would not be returning to TV until Spring of 2014 to give him a chance to "recharge" and avoid burning out on doing the show. Selfishly, that's a bummer -- we would all love the show to come back much, much sooner -- but at least we know that CK is putting the quality of his show above financial reward. Integrity!

Musical guest for CK's episode will be the band Fun.

If he can’t fix this show, will you stop watching?
