Fresh off his double Emmy win for his sitcom Louie, stand-up comedian Louis CK will slay another dragon and host Saturday Night Live for the very first time on November 3rd.
Stand-up comic hosts have been a staple of the sketch comedy show since George Carlin hosted the first ever episode of the show back in 1975. It doesn't happen as much these days; the last big-name comic I can remember hosting is Dane Cook back in 2006. It can be difficult for a comic to navigate fitting in to the show's comedy while still maintaining a sense of who he or she is as a comedian (not that it's necessary -- the best hosts blend in the best -- but it seems to be the way it is). I can't wait to see how CK deals with that dichotomy.
CK recently announced that his brilliant, Emmy-award winning FX sitcom would not be returning to TV until Spring of 2014 to give him a chance to "recharge" and avoid burning out on doing the show. Selfishly, that's a bummer -- we would all love the show to come back much, much sooner -- but at least we know that CK is putting the quality of his show above financial reward. Integrity!
Musical guest for CK's episode will be the band Fun.
