Another popular comedy podcast is coming to TV.
Chris Hardwick's excellent Nerdist podcast has been picked up as a regular series on BBC America, according to reports from Splitsider earlier this week. In the past, Hardwick has done a few half-hour Nerdist specials for BBC America, usually around the holidays or to help promote a major event (like the premiere of a new Doctor Who season). But this new deal is something different; this will be a weekly hour-long show that sounds like it will fit more into the traditional talk show mold. Hardwick (and his Nerdist co-hosts Matt Mira and Jonah Ray) will talk pop culture and interview guests, as well as welcome bands and stand-up comics on to perform.
I've enjoyed the TV specials up until now, but always felt like everyone was trying to pack way too much into a single hour. Hopefully, things can breathe a little better now that the show will be on every week.
The Nerdist show comes on the heels of Scott Aukerman's famous Comedy Bang Bang! podcast being turned into a series on IFC, as well as the forthcoming Marc Maron sitcom based on his WTF podcast.
The new Nerdist TV show is expected to premiere on Saturdays in Spring 2013.
