Christian Finnegan Overview:

Christian Finnegan is exactly what a textbook stand-up comic should be; he doesn't rely on any gimmicks, crazy movements or funny voices. He tells jokes and makes fun of things -- and isn't that the first job of the comedian? Primarily focusing on observational comedy, Finnegan openly acknowledges that he doesn't intend to test the limitations of stand-up comedy; he just wants to say things that are funny. To that end, he's a success.

Early Years:

Christian Finnegan (born Fletcher Christian Finnegan) was born on April 1, 1973, in Albany, New York. Though he was interested in performing while growing up, he had no aspirations of a career in comedy. After attending The Walnut Hill School, a performing arts school in Natick, Massachusetts, Finnegan moved on to NYU and a major in acting. During college, he switched majors to focus on writing and directing; comedy was still not on the horizon.

Finding Comedy:

After college, Finnegan stumbled across the burgeoning alternative comedy scene in New York. Realizing that comedy would offer him the chance to serve as both writer and performer, he began performing stand-up outside of the comedy club circuit -- open mics at venues like bars and theaters. That was all it took; Finnegan was hooked.

Christian Finnegan's Career:

In addition to his career as a stand-up, Finnegan has been appearing as a commentator on VH1's pop culture roundup series Best Week Ever since 2004. That same year, he got a job as a writer and contributor on the short-lived Comedy Central series Tough Crowd, hosted by fellow comedian Colin Quinn. He also appeared in the "Mad Real World" sketch on the hugely successful Chappelle's Show, playing lone white roommate Chad.

In 2006, Finnegan released his first stand-up album, Two for Flinching, on Comedy Central Records.

In May 2009, Finnegan released his second album, Au Contraire. It also aired as an hour-long stand-up special on Comedy Central.

Additional Christian Finnegan Facts:

  • Finnegan has appeared on Comedy Central's Premium Blend, as well as the channel's roast of Jeff Foxworthy and had his own Comedy Central Presents special.
  • The once-heavyset comic lost 70 pounds in 2006.
  • On his official website, Finnegan keeps a regular blog called "Tower of Hubris."
