Blue Collar Comedy

By

Definition:

Blue Collar Comedy is a hugely successful genre of stand-up made popular by comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy, Ron White and Bill Envall, all of whom toured as part of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Named for "blue collar" work, the Blue Collar comedians position themselves as very much working-class and of the people (this despite the fact that they've all gone on to become millionaires). Most of the humor invokes a Southern sensibility (with jokes about what it's like to live in the South -- such as Foxworthy's famous "You might be a redneck..." routine -- or the way it influences your view of America) and most of which (save for White) is mostly "family-friendly". Though heavy on innuendo, most of the Blue Collar Comedians avoid working blue.
